EASTERN EQUINE ENCEPHALITIS (EEE)

QUICK LINKS

ABOUT

Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) is an arbovirus (arthropod borne virus) transmitted by mosquitoes and was first identified in the 1930s as an important cause of encephalitis in horses; however, humans can also contract this disease. Most reported cases of EEE infection are east of the Mississippi River. EEE is not commonly reported in West Virginia residents.
