ABOUT

Ehrlichiosis refers to at least three different types of bacterial infections caused primarily from the bites of infected lone star ticks. Symptoms include fever, headache and muscle aches which generally begin 1 to 2 weeks after the tick bite. Ehrlichiosis is most commonly reported in the central, upper Midwest, southeast, and northeast regions of the United States. Ehrlichiosis is not frequently reported in West Virginia residents (0 to 3 cases per year).
