PARAINFLUENZA

QUICK LINKS

ABOUT

Human Parainfluenza Viruses (HPIV) are respiratory viruses that infect the lungs, breathing passages, and cause cold-like symptoms.

Parainfluenza viruses are different than influenza viruses and usually circulate in the spring, summer, and fall. HPIV usually only causes mild respiratory symptoms, but may cause more serious complications such as croup, bronchiolitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. Although human parainfluenza viruses most commonly cause respiratory illnesses in infants and young children, anyone can get HPIV.
