DIVISION OF TUBERCULOSIS ELIMINATION

In West Virginia, the Division of Tuberculosis Elimination (DTBE) is tasked with managing, treating, controlling the spread of, and eventually eliminating tuberculosis (TB). DTBE’s intensive efforts over the last decade have successfully driven the rate of TB disease in West Virginia to one of the lowest in the nation. Working through the local health departments, each year DTBE tests around 13,000 people for TB, conducts chest x-ray clinics around the state, and provides the medical management and treatment to between 100-200 citizens infected with TB. All services are provided to individuals that are infected at no charge.
