REPORTING GUIDELINES

Facilities and Providers:

Report the following to the Local Health Department within the required timeframe
  • Influenza-associated pediatric mortality: One Week
  • Novel Influenza: Immediately
  • Outbreaks: Immediately

Laboratories:

Report the following to the Local Health Department within the required timeframe
  • Novel Influenza: Immediately
  • Outbreaks: Immediately
Report positive influenza tests in aggregate by completing an electronic Influenza laboratory Reporting Form
  • Tests to include: PCR, immunofluorescence, and culture
  • Tests to exclude: serology and rapid antigen detection
  • Reporting period: Weekly Sunday through Saturday, with report due the following Monday
 

SENTINEL PROVIDER PROGRAM

West Virginia influenza surveillance relies on healthcare providers across the state, known as "sentinel providers", who report counts of influenza-like illness they see weekly. See the Sentinel Provider page for more information on this program.
